Mesothelioma can affect a person in many ways. Generally symptoms include coughing, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, difficulty sleeping, weight loss, pain in the chest and abdomen, and fluid in the chest. In addition to these symptoms, people with peritoneal mesothelioma may experience a buildup of fluid in the abdomen, bowel obstruction, abnormal blood clotting, abdominal mass, and fever. Those with pleural mesothelioma may experience pain in the lower back, pain in the side of chest, a persistent cough, husky voice, difficulty swallowing, and fever.
