The Mesothelioma SOS Glossary - Adjuvent Therapy
Adjuvant therapy is the process by which two different forms of treatment are administered simultaneously in cancer patients. For example, in patients with mesothelioma, the three most common forms of treatment are surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Adjuvant therapy would involve a primary form of treatment, like radiation, being administered at the same time as a secondary form of treatment, like chemotherapy. Cancer patients who undergo adjuvant therapies typically have much higher success rates in both relief of symptoms and recession of the disease than those cancer patients than those who only undergo single treatments.
