The Mesothelioma SOS Glossary - Asbestosis
Asbestosis is a non-cancerous, yet severe lung condition that is caused by exposure to asbestos. As asbestos fibers are inhaled, lung tissues are damaged, and the body produces an inflammatory immune reaction, causing the growth of fibroids in the lungs. As more fibroids develop, lungs lose their elasticity, causing lung failure. For more information on asbestosis and treatment for asbestosis, please visit our asbestosis page.
