The Mesothelioma SOS Glossary - Esophagus
The esophagus is the muscular tube that leads from the throat to the stomach. The esophagus connects the pharynx with the stomach. The esophagus is lined with a mucous membrane, and consists of many large muscles, which are used to push food down into the stomach. Food is passed through the esophagus with the peristaltic action, or the action of moving swallowed food down to the stomach.
