The Mesothelioma SOS Glossary - Radiologist
A radiologist is a doctor who specializes in the field of radiology. Radiology is the field of treatment that incorporates ionizing and non-ionizing radiation to diagnose and treat cancer. A radiologist will usually assist in the diagnosis of mesothelioma by assisting in giving and interpreting not only X-Rays, but also CT scans and MRI scans. A radiologist will also help in the treatment of cancer by administering both internal and external radiation. Both of these methods of radiation incorporate high energy X-rays, which are used to shrink tumor size before surgery, and also to relieve symptoms of mesothelioma.
