Surgery is a medical procedure that treats diseases or injuries by operative treatment. Surgery typically involves the removal or replacement of a diseased or injured organ or tissue. Surgery can treat not only trauma and injury, but also inflammation, neoplasia, abnormal tissue growths, metabolic disorder and anatomical abnormalities. In the realm of cancer and mesothelioma treatment, surgery is typically administered in early stages of mesothelioma to remove tumor masses. In later stages of cancer, surgery can be administered to allow patients to be more comfortable.
