The Mesothelioma SOS Glossary - Tumor
A tumor is an abnormal growth caused by the uncontrollable growth of tissues. Tumor growth can be either benign or malignant. Benign tumors are not cancerous and do not create metastases. Additionally, benign tumors do not invade neighboring tissues. However, although benign tumors are not cancerous, they can be dangerous if they grow and block internal processes, like digestion. Malignant tumors are cancerous, and have not only the potential to metastases, but also the capacity to invade and destroy surrounding tissues.
