January 5, 2007 - The California-based Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) announced on Tuesday the names of four award winners for this year’s ceremony honoring individuals who contributed outstanding work and dedication to asbestos awareness-related activities.
According to a press release issued by the organization, the awards will go to Senator Patty Murray, who will be presented with the Tribute to Hope Award for her undying mission to ban asbestos and fund research for a cure; Pat Martin, Canadian Member of Parliament, who will receive the Tribute to Unity Award for his global work to “unite, educate and empower asbestos victims and public health workers;” Dr. Michael Harbut, who will be recognized with the Dr. Irving Selikoff Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of his dedicated research into the social and medical impact asbestos has had on humankind; Paul and Michelle Zygielbaum, who will be presented with the Tribute to Inspiration Award for being a “bridge to hope” for mesothelioma victims and their families as they continue to offer encouragement, comfort, funding and guidance for those suffering from the disease.
The awards will be presented at the organization’s annual conference, which will take place at the Drexel University School of Public Health in Philadelphia on March 31st and April 1st. This is the ADAO’s third such conference, where doctors, researchers, and others concerned with the effects of asbestos gather together to discuss treatments and other asbestos-related issues.
