Widow of Movie Set Painter Files Lawsuit
November 20, 2006 - A British woman, whose husband painted sets for James Bond movies at England’s famed Pinewood Studios, is suing Rank Film Productions, claiming her husband was exposed to asbestos on the job. He died of mesothelioma earlier this year at the age of 59.
Barbara Sharp, the widow of painter Ronald Sharp, is convinced that her husband contracted the fatal lung cancer because he was exposed to now-banned insulator asbestos over a long period of time at the London film studio. He worked on popular James Bond movies of the 1960s and 1970s, including On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, You Only Live Twice, and Diamonds are Forever.
Barbara Sharp is seeking GBP150,000 ($270,000) in damages from Rank Film Productions. "My husband lost 18 years of his life because of Rank's negligence in exposing him to asbestos,” said Sharp in a recent interview for a movie industry trade newspaper.
