Navelbine ® (vinorelbine)
Navelbine® is a chemotherapy drug that has been traditionally used for a number of different kinds of cancer, including breast cancer and non-small-cell lung cancer. When used to treat mesothelioma, studies have shown that this drug produces less crippling side effects than other standard chemo drugs, such as cisplatin.
In clinical trials of the drug, vinorelbine was shown not only to enhance quality of life for meso patients, but nearly 25% of the patients responded to the treatment, while the disease was stabilized for a time in nearly half of the individuals participating in the studies. Other chemotherapy drugs have had less than a 20% success rate among patients with malignant mesothelioma.
